A Moment of Pride for Star
International School-Sharjah
Star International School, Sharjah, is committed to protecting the environment. The school actively supports the Emirates Environmental Group with their Newspaper and Can Collection Drives. Hence it was a matter of pride and great rejoicement, when Asad Ahmed of S.I.S. Sharjah won the FIRST RUNNER-UP prize at the 8th Inter –School Public Speaking Competition organized by EEG at the J.W. Marriott Hotel. The topic was “Our World in a Hundred Years”. Asad Ahmed of Star International School, Sharjah was the youngest speaker in this competition. In fact, he could not be seen behind the podium and had to be given a ‘collar-mike’ and moved in front of the audience.
Twenty-five schools battled for the top 3 prizes. Asad, a student of Grade 5 was pitted against students of Grades 9 and 10. But he held his ground. His 7 minute speech and the Power Point presentation by class mate Syed Sareemuddin ended in a loud applause.
Asad’s speech, the powerful graphics and the novel idea of bringing a person – Mr. Hamdan (via the Star International School time machine) from the future made an unbeatable combination. Star International School, Sharjah was awarded points for clarity of speech and originality of idea and Environmental impact/solution.
The 1st Runner up prize to Asad was well deserved. The entire school celebrated the success with candy for all students
